Job Description


The Network Excellence Lead for the Biologics Operating Unit (Biologics) is a passionate, creative, enterprise-minded, operational leader.

The core focus of the Network Excellence Lead is to enable robust network strategies through execution, lead the enterprise risk management program, and connect a diverse global network of biologics manufacturing sites and business partners.

Building organizational understanding and capability by fostering an inclusive culture, led by continuous improvement, that ultimately contributes to the delivery of high-quality therapies to patients around the world.

Network Strategy

  • Support development/refresh of the Biologics strategy through endorsement, and execution performance
    • Including site roles, key investments, sourcing risk mitigation, product/raw material storage, and new technology introduction
    • Partner and assist in network strategy development and deployment (Takeda’s AGILE 4.0 Network Excellence Workstream), and align to QC Laboratory Network Strategy
    • Collaborate with product teams for alignment and support of product strategy execution

Enterprise Risk Management

  • Lead end-to-end comprehensive program for Biologics – from routine assessments through execution and continuous improvement
    • Product supply assurance – sourcing, strategic capital projects, manufacturing sites, etc.
  • Facilitate enterprise risk management assessments, mitigation evaluations, and escalations

Operational Capability Building & Performance

  • Lead and coach to develop individual and organizational capabilities
  • Facilitate global Biologics Business Excellence community of practice
  • Support value stream analysis and optimization
  • Lead and/or support key initiatives for the Biologics
  • Represent Biologics on global initiatives and workstreams


Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Balance strategic awareness and direction setting with a focus on achieving consistent results
  • Familiar with a broad range of operational excellence methodologies and their applications
  • Knowledge and experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Strong technical operations (manufacturing, engineering, quality, supply chain) experience and understanding of diverse technologies (e.g. cell culture, cell therapy, gene therapy, devices)
  • Demonstrated abilities in project/program management associated with cross-functional, global teams
  • Experience in developing and/or evaluating feasibility assessments of projects, technologies, and assets - taking into account technical and business aspects
  • Ability to collect and utilize information to monitor business performance, assess risks, and recommend approaches that resolve issues and deliver positive business outcomes


  • Coordinates and works closely with manufacturing sites and functional business partners
  • Interfaces with all areas of leadership to ensure alignment
  • Must possess strong program leadership, team building and problem solving skills. Is a positive, enterprise minded, collaborative leader

  • Daily engagement across Biologics, Global Manufacturing & Supply, and Global Quality.   Colleagues include, but not limited to: Manufacturing Sites, External Supply, Quality, Strategy & Business Excellence, Enterprise Risk Management, Manufacturing Sciences, Procurement, IT, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain, EHS, Operational Excellence, Product Operations Teams, CMC Teams, Plasma & Small Molecule Operating Units

  • Drives coordination and execution of Bio OpU processes, projects and governance. Facilitates, monitors, and aligns activities across teams / sites to ensure optimal performance delivery across the Bio OpU.
  • Determines appropriate mechanisms to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Identify and communicate priority balances and trade-offs, drive towards effective decision-making and prioritization



  • B.S. degree in a Technical Discipline
  • 10+ years relevant pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Strong technical operations (process development, manufacturing, engineering, quality) experience and understanding of diverse technologies
  • High level of emotional intelligence
  • Experienced in interfacing with and managing cross-functional teams globally in a matrix environment
  • Demonstrated abilities in project/program management associated with cross-functional, global teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Strong business acumen
  • Understanding of risk management processes
  • Strong problem solving, decision-making, collaboration, and facilitation skills
  • Embody agility


  • Master’s Degree, MBA, or related business degree


Travel required up to 20% (domestic and international)
