OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

  • Act as a key advisory member to the Data, Digital & Technology (DD&T), Japan Business Unit’s (JPBU) leadership team as well as a key contributor to Takeda’s Enterprise Architecture (EA), engaging in a highly collaborative way to understand the business domain including strategic business needs and roadmaps; collaborate with the functional area to solve unique and high complex technology Architecture or business-significant problems, build capabilities, and shape technology strategy.
  • Act as a primary architecture domain expert; Lead the JPBU solution architecture team in the development of architecture strategy, roadmaps, and guardrails.    Utilize business capability models, technology reference models, and functional area roadmaps to guide investment decisions in support of executing business and IT strategy.
  • Represent capability domain needs within Enterprise Architecture. Track and apply emerging innovative and existing technologies, anchoring them in the business model to assess their potential, and help to evolve innovations.
  • Influence and contribute to EA and Global IT’s strategic goals, maintaining central awareness of value stream, business capability map, and changes to architecture roadmaps. Guide pragmatic alignment to global IT standards and EA Guiding Principles

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Be a trusted advisor to the JPBU digital leadership in developing and steering data and technology strategies within enterprise guardrails.
  • Represent JP business unit in all Enterprise Architecture forums while driving alignment to central standards and guidelines
  • Drive to “One Global Takeda” through architecture simplification, application rationalization, and reduced cost in order to achieve synergies and business value, focusing on assigned areas
  • Lead the delivery of both defined and ad-hoc Enterprise Architecture services to an assigned business domain including the development of strategies and roadmaps
  • Direct and expert business capability models and technology reference models
  • Lead the development of key standards, guidance, and reference architectures as a leader of at least one Architecture Domain Team, along with an extended Architecture Community of Practice
  • Influence and expert in Architecture Governance, including Architecture Reviews and Architecture Council (AC)
  • Lead and influence the development of capabilities which will drive effective business outcomes
  • Use in-depth knowledge and experience with Architecture, design, data, system thinking, and standards together with and clear view of Enterprise Leadership and Product Management to advise on multiple levels of complexity in Architecture.
  • Govern technology introduction and standardization in the assigned area to drive business outcomes while reducing risk

CORE ELEMENTS RELATED TO THIS ROLE

  • While driving the usual operational improvements, on the one hand, this role must also support blue-sky innovation on the other. Identify opportunities to drive business outcomes and drive for value realization through an Enterprise Architecture approach
  • Through a broad perspective, understand technology trends, anticipate the impact of emerging technologies, and help to prepare the organization to capitalize on opportunities
  • Be the bridge between JPBU business and various IT areas
  • Be the custodian of the Takeda Enterprise Architecture, enterprise principles, standards and guardrails which evolves primarily through product and technology investments; the role seeks to align these investments to optimize business outcomes for the JPBU.
  • Function as trusted advisor and internal management consultant to the assigned functional IT area

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Significant, well-rounded business acumen for the pharmaceutical or life sciences industries; Significant depth in at least one business architecture domain (Patient Engagements, Commercial, Marketing & Campaign Operations, Medical CRM (Veeva, SFHC, SF Marketing Automation), etc.,   and at least one technical architecture domain (Data Science Tools, AWS, Mulesoft, PowerBI, etc).  
  • Familiarity with information management practices, regulatory requirements and data privacy laws, especially those that uniquely effect the pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics

Leadership

  • Ability to define and communicate compelling, business-enabling technology vision and the business value of this vision, along with actionable roadmaps to achieve target state architecture across people, process, and technology dimensions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading and influencing cross-functional teams. Able to gain buy-in and promote shared ownership of projects
  • Master of the art of change management through effective communication, planning, and execution
  • Ability to directly or indirectly lead various solution Architecture teams and efforts within JPBU.

Decision-making and Autonomy

  • Ability to work with significant autonomy of decision-making and self-direction to drive leading business and IT outcomes while remaining aligned to the evolving Takeda Enterprise Architecture target state architecture
  • Ability to multi-task with a sense of urgency, while taking a rigorous, structured approach
  • Proven ability to lead technology-driven innovation, taking smart risks, driving small experiments to mitigate risks, and solving emergent problems

Interaction

  • Adept at developing meaningful “trusted advisor” relationships with EA’s business and technical stakeholders of all levels
  • Proven ability to work well with people from different disciplines and with varying degrees of business or technical knowledge
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly both in verbal and written forms to the all organizational levels

Innovation

  • Ability to operate as a key EA change agent during the digital transformation and cloud native transformations to come
  • Exposure to agile ways of working, such as Scrum / SAFe and DevOps methodologies
  • Solid grasp of the strategic technologies Takeda needs to act on and operationalize in the next three to five years, currently including Cloud, AI/ML, patient engagement platforms, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), IoT, and immersive experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and share relevant enabling architecture guidance or reference architectures in support of innovation 

Complexity

  • Able to guide and direct a portfolio of projects from demand to closure from an EA perspective
  • Cultural awareness to engage globally with sensitivity to local and regional considerations
  • Awareness of overall pharmaceutical business landscape and applicable disruptions, as well as
  • Ability to drive plans to simplify the significant complexity of our current combined technology estate

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • BA or BS degree required. Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, or related field preferred. Significant business and/or technology background a requirement for the role.
  • 5+ years of experience in strategic planning and business analysis.
  • 6+ years related pharmaceutical or pharmaceutical consulting work required. 6+ years of experience working in a business partnering or consulting/advisory role at a mid-to-senior executive level.
  • 7+ years of experience in at least three disciplines, such as pharmaceutical business, information, solution or technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations in a multitier environment
  • Fluency in English, and Japanese.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Architecture frameworks / IT methodologies such as TOGAF (preferred), DODAF, FEAF, Zachmann, IT4IT, ITIL, etc.

  • Travel nationally and internationally as necessary (< 10%)
