Job Description

Objectives / Purpose:

• Lead the Process Automation discipline within the GCC and provide automation engineering expertise supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities across all modalities.
• Build and develop Process Automation capabilities, talent, technical expertise, and succession pipelines within the GCC.
• Drive engineering excellence, innovation, standardization, and continuous improvement through digital and data-driven engineering practices.
• Ensure automation solutions support GMP, quality, regulatory, safety, cybersecurity, and business requirements.

Accountabilities:

Leadership:

• Lead, coach, and develop Process Automation Engineers.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and capability development.
• Manage discipline capacity, priorities, and resource allocation.

Engineering Expertise & Design Support:

• Provide technical leadership for process automation solutions across OSD, Biologics, Plasma, and Fill-Finish facilities.
• Support automation concepts, control philosophies, automation architectures, and design reviews.
• Provide automation expertise during concept, FEED, detailed design reviews, and lifecycle activities.
• Coordinate interfaces with Process Engineering, Facilities & Utilities, Digital Manufacturing, CQV, and project teams.

Quality, Compliance & Governance:

• Ensure automation designs align with GMP requirements, Takeda standards, and applicable industry regulations.
• Ensure compliance with GAMP5, ISA-88, ISA-95, Data Integrity, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Lead technical reviews, risk assessments, lessons learned, and development of engineering best practices.
• Support inspection readiness and compliance initiatives.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

• Drive standardization and reuse of automation solutions.
• Promote innovation, digital engineering, and data-driven decision making.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reliability, sustainability, and engineering quality.
• Support development of automation design standards, templates, and best practices.

Education, Behavioural Competencies and Skills:

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
• Master's Degree preferred.

Experience:

• 10+ years of automation engineering experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, plasma, or other regulated industries.
• Experience supporting process automation solutions across capital projects and manufacturing operations.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical initiatives.
• Experience with GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
