The Opportunity
As ServiceNow Senior Release Train Engineer your primary responsibility will be to govern the continuous delivery pipeline process for the Agile Release Train, working with diverse teams who drive our delivery success. You need to have experience managing Scrum teams in a distributed working model.
In this role, you will facilitate the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Agile Release Train (ART) processes and program execution, escalate impediments, manage risk, and help drive program-level continuous improvement. Your duties will include overseeing the various stages of ServiceNow platform/product development and collaborating with the platform management, development teams and scrum masters. You will also be responsible as a servant leader to enable the deployment and integration of new products/features across the ServiceNow platform.
Responsibilities
- Establish and communicate annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments, while facilitating end-to-end agile release processes and Program Increment (PI) planning to ensure readiness and synchronization across Agile Release Train (ART).
- Facilitate ART events such as PI Planning, System Demos, Inspect and Adapt Workshops, Scrum of Scrums, and ART Synchronization, ensuring effective team alignment and communication.
- Assist Product Owners with demand prioritization, execution of Program Increment tracking, and aggregation of Product Increment objectives into Program Increment objectives.
- Escalate and track program-level impediments, manage and optimize the flow of work within the program, and ensure alignment between strategy and program-level execution.
- Build strong stakeholder engagement by incorporating stakeholder input into plans and maintaining transparency through regular communication and feedback.
- Help manage risks and dependencies, ensuring compliance with Takeda standards and policies, and provide program-level status updates to stakeholders on delivery, timelines, and impediments.
- Measure delivery, maturity, and performance of both the Agile Release Train and individual teams, utilizing dashboards to verify content readiness and prioritize improvements.
- Coordinate and maintain a focus on quality assurance, ensuring that ART processes meet agreed-upon quality standards and that improvements are continuously pursued.
- Understand and operate within ART budgets (if any), communicate program-level resourcing requirements, and report funding and resource acquisition needs.
- Facilitate collaboration with internal resources and/or external vendors and manage dependencies to maintain smooth workflow and reduce operational risks.
- Provide hands-on training and coaching for leaders, teams, and members in SAFe, while leading a culture of Lean-Agile and continuous improvement through roadshows, integration, and Communities of Practice.
- Integrate regulatory and compliance alignment into ART processes to ensure all deliverables adhere to industry and organizational requirements, particularly crucial in Takeda’s regulated environment.
- Facilitate the inclusion of customer feedback into ART objectives and deliverables, optimizing value delivery and increasing customer satisfaction.
- Attend program-level demos, facilitate continuous integration, and identify improvement opportunities to enhance delivery and adoption of SAFe at the organizational level.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science/Information Technology, or relevant work experience.
- Must have SAFe Release Train Engineer certification or, at minimum, SAFe Scrum Master certification.
- 10+ years of work experience, including 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Release Train Engineer within an organization that has 50-150 people within an Agile Release Train.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (e.g., SAFe, Scrum) and experience working within Agile frameworks.
- Proficiency with Agile tools such as JIRA, JIRA Align, TargetProcess, and Confluence.
- Ideally 3+ years of work experience with ServiceNow modules.
- ServiceNow System Administrator certification (preferred).
- ServiceNow Application Developer certification (preferred).
- Demonstrated expertise in modern software development practices, including DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, Agile frameworks, SDLC, and DevSecOps methodologies."
- Experience working in a multi-locational matrix organization where solution development and delivery is done across multiple ARTs/Product Areas/teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts and align organization on decisions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
