Overview:

The Digital Discovery & Development Transformation Lead is a critical member of our Research Strategic Operations team. This role will interface with top leadership across R&D and is critical in shaping our digital research aspiration, as well as developing tangible plans and driving implementation along with change management. This position requires a deep understanding of both the pharmaceutical industry including digital and AI-powered drug discovery, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent stakeholder management, and the ability to effectively drive the execution of a major transformation program.

Accountabilities:                                                                                                                                    

  • Lead Takeda’s Digital Discovery & Development Transformation initiative, setting the strategic direction and ensuring alignment with Takeda's goals.
  • Partner with Research, Digital, and Business Development teams to drive the design, planning, and implementation of digital and AI-powered drug discovery processes.
  • Work closely with the Head of Computational Sciences as part of their leadership team to ensure alignment of objectives and research processes, shape the team’s strategic direction, as well as support operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify new ways of working and redesign the drug discovery value chain to integrate digital innovation (e.g., 'in silico-first' approach, lab automation).
  • Drive agile decision-making and re-engineer processes to enhance Research productivity, leveraging real-time data and insights.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with external stakeholders such as research institutions, universities, digital drug discovery companies, and CROs to foster collaboration, leverage external expertise, access funding opportunities, and enhance the organization's capabilities
  • Identify required digital capabilities and potential gaps, develop, prototype, and scale capabilities across Takeda’s discovery portfolio
  • Manage the transition from traditional drug discovery methods to a sustainable digital model by driving change and influencing stakeholders across all levels of the organization, leveraging strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Education & Competencies :

  • Expected 10 years related experience in the pharmaceutical industry (or equivalent), with expertise in drug discovery, Takeda therapeutic areas
  • Experience at a major consulting firm preferred
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in a scientific discipline preferred
  • Proven ability to respectfully challenge and influence senior leaders
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale initiatives within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end drug discovery and development processes and workflows, combined with expertise in digital innovation, AI, machine learning, and lab automation in drug discovery
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to provide strategic direction and drive results
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage complex projects and drive organizational change

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$174,500.00 - $274,230.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
