POSITION OBJECTIVES:
This role is responsible for enabling and managing future data engineering and automation platforms within the Takeda portfolio and is responsible for the day-to-day development and alignment of delivery to the strategic vision. This role is also focused on understanding and introducing emerging technology that will transform the way we engineer data and deliver automation through cloud technology and platforms. Responsibilities of this role include the conception, delivery, release plans, and communicating progress to stakeholders.
As a recognized expert within your business or function, you possess comprehensive expertise in data engineering and automation, with broad knowledge across related areas. You excel at anticipating internal/external challenges, recommending improvements, and providing leadership and consultative expertise for data engineering and automation across the business, regions, or functions. Your role involves shaping company policies, solving unique, far-reaching problems affecting operations, disciplines, or other business units/functional areas/regions. You frequently interact with equivalent-level managers and customer representatives, conducting briefings and technical meetings. Operating independently, you provide guidance in the most complex situations, lead functional teams or projects, and serve as a best practice/quality resource for data engineering and automation initiatives.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead the analysis, design, development, and implementation of advanced data engineering and automation platforms to enable data-driven workflows and intelligent solutions.
- Oversee data engineering ecosystem design, plan projects, establish and monitor progress, and ensure that initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and effectively integrated with other systems.
- Hands-on experience in implementing pipelines that scale to process and handle large volumes of data, ensuring robustness, reliability, and high performance for big data workloads.
- Collaborate closely with enterprise strategy and architecture teams to assess current capabilities, identify gaps, and drive innovative solutions for future needs in data engineering and automation.
- Work extensively with business partnering teams, domain end users, and scientists to understand complex business data requirements, workflows, and opportunities for improving technology capabilities.
- Support and advance data engineering needs for automation and integration across functional areas and ensure success through scalable infrastructure solutions.
- Direct the development and configuration of data engineering platforms and automation frameworks, from conceptualization to production stabilization.
- Oversee efforts in testing, debugging, and documenting data engineering workflows and system automation solutions.
- Lead activities related to implementation, enhancement, and ongoing maintenance of data engineering and automation platforms.
- Oversee service requests and perform critical support and maintenance activities to ensure system uptime and reliability.
- Establish requirements management processes to identify, verify, and document business, functional, and technical requirements to support robust, technology-led solutions.
- Collaborate with IT Architects to define business solutions that align with strategies, priorities, and anticipated business benefits.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies, overseeing research into new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to support data engineering and automation needs.
- Drive experimentation and proof-of-concept initiatives to explore innovative features, automation techniques, and platform enhancements.
- Provide leadership for evaluating and recommending advanced frameworks, platforms, and tools for efficient data engineering and automation solutions.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- A Bachelor's Degree Computer Science. Master’s Degree (preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a technology-focused Software Development and Data Engineering Role.
- Developing and deploying technology and process change, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion in a timely and efficient manner.
- Recognized for meticulous attention to detail, enhancing quality and precision across projects.
- Direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related field required
- Previous experience leading a medium to large organization and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders is a plus
- Proven track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change as well as delivering on programs with complex business deliverables
- Track record of successful leadership, management, and development of large, multi-disciplinary globally dispersed teams. Strong judge of talent with the ability to make tough talent decisions.
- Health care business acumen with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry

USA - MA - CambridgeU.S. Base Salary Range:
$153,600.00 - $241,340.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
