Join Takeda as a Head Computational & Systems Biology (C&SB), Senior Director where you will lead the ECD GI² TAU C&SB team with accountability for establishing C&SB strategies and supporting projects entering and through clinical development including translational activities. You will also generate and access large-scale data resources and build and drive collaborations with internal groups, CROs and academic partners to support GI² projects. Here, you will develop, evaluate, and apply state-of-the-art computational biology methods for translational research, including systems biology, pathway/network analysis, machine learning, GWAS, TWAS, PGS, single-cell and single-nucleus RNA-seq, etc. You will also integrate and analyze translational and clinical, internal and public ‘omics datasets, to generate and evaluate hypotheses for patient stratification, biomarker validation/identification, drug mechanism identification, and new disease indication selection efforts. As part of the GI and Inflammation Therapeutic Area Unit (GI² TAU) team, you will report to the Head, Early Clinical Development (ECD), GI, and work with GI² TAU organization.

How you will contribute:

  • Manage a team of C&SB scientists and leading cross-functional teams as well as cross-culture and cross-location collaborations to achieve project goals.
  • Lead strategic planning and execution of C&SB supporting clinical and translational goals.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with various key partnering functions, e.g. GI Drug Discovery Unit (GI DDU), GI Therapeutic Area Unit (GI² TAU), Clinical Science, Clinical Biomarker, Quantitative Science, and other functions and teams.
  • Biological knowledge in one or more areas of inflammation, inflammatory bowel disease, or liver and gut fibrosis.
  • Build, lead and contribute to key partnerships with academic and industrial entities.
  • Identify, build, and use bioinformatic pipelines to QC, process, and analyze omics data types including genomics, transcriptomics, single cell sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics and more.
  • Create visualizations, and interpret high dimensional data, and deliver and explain results to cross-functional teams.
  • Work collaboratively with data scientists and data engineering groups to enhance our computational infrastructure, user interface, query, and visualization capabilities.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in a scientific discipline, with 15+ years of working experience.
  • Previous industry leadership experience, with strong background in applying C&SB to research, translational and clinical programs.
  • Established leadership experience with people, project and portfolio management.
  • Excellent ability to manage and develop direct reports and teams to achieve computational biology support for discovery, translational and clinical projects.
  • Ability to drive and coordinate collaborations and influence project teams to use C&SB in study designs, and to extract maximum value in interpretation of results.
  • Excellent management, communication, and interpersonal skills, to ensure this leadership role of computational biology supports GI projects.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$205,100.00 - $322,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
