POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • R&D Finance Manager will support Therapeutic Area Finance Lead with financial and accounting activities for a strategic R&D partnership with an external biotech, managing a complex cost-sharing structure.
  • This role supports clinical trial financial duties for the partnered asset and contributes to broader deliverables by the clinical finance team.
  • The manager will drive continuous process improvements across systems and deliverables, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage the R&D cost-sharing mechanism for a strategic R&D partnership with an external biotech.  Structure includes direct costs and indirect costs (FTEs and functional service providers).
  • Support financial planning, tracking, reporting, variance analysis, and monthly close processes.   
  • Support the budgeting process where needed, including budget consolidation for internal governance and joint steering committee.
  • Support on monthly/quarterly closes, tasks including calculation of monthly accruals and preparation of journal entries. Ensure monthly/quarterly/year-end closes are completed accurately with high quality.
  • Establish effective relationships with functional project members including alliance management.  Provide effective business partnering support to meet alliance-related deliverables and resolve issues.
  • Develop understanding of clinical trial budget management processes and support the clinical trial finance team on monthly close, process improvements, and other deliverables.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in R&D/ equivalent and FP&A
  • Demonstrated understanding of business operations and measurements;
  • Previous reporting/planning/monthly variance analysis experience
  • Financial planning and reporting systems experience
  • Strong experience in working with datasets and reporting for stakeholders
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and problem-solving
  • Demonstrated breadth and depth of business exposure beyond finance function 
  • Demonstrated capability to operate effectively in global/matrix environment

Skills:

  • Analytical – Ability to determine methods and types of analyses to be performed to address a business question.  Ability to interpret and question data inputs to financial models and support alternative recommendations as necessary.
  • Teamwork – Ability to drive decision-making within a cross-functional and cross-cultural, global team structure.
  • Communication – Ability to exercise strong negotiation, diplomacy and persuasive skills in a matrix environment
  • Management - Ability to set priorities and meet specific deadlines in a changing environment, ability to be flexible, accommodating, and to deal with change effectively.

  • Leadership: Ability to set priorities; develop workflow processes, and direct a team of colleagues with no official reporting relationship
  • Industry Acumen: Ability to define, develop and implement business solutions based on trends, opportunities, needs and market direction within pharmaceutical industry and health care environment.

For Location:

USA - MA - Cambridge

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$111,800.00 - $175,670.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
