Objective / Purpose:
- Under the direction of the Associate Director, engages in preclinical drug discovery activities for neurodegenerative diseases in Neuroscience field.
- Participates in cross-functional drug discovery research projects as an in vivo expert and contributes to data generation for compound selection toward clinical candidates in collaboration with colleagues in NS DDU as well as internal partners (GC, NCSP, DMPK, PS, TVS, CEI, TAU, etc.).
- Produces accurate and reproducible experimental data using skilled experimental techniques and appropriate data analysis methods.
Accountabilities:
- Makes in vivo research plan and performs pharmacological evaluations in animals such as mice, rats, and monkeys to optimize candidate compounds for research projects in Neuroscience disease area including neurodegenerative diseases.
- Ensures reliability of data by using reproducible experimental techniques and appropriate data analysis methods.
- Understands and complies the laws, regulations, and guidelines related to animal welfare and experiments.
- Performs biochemical anatomical, and/or immunohistochemical experimental techniques such as western blotting, ELISA assay, immunohistochemistry, etc.
- Participates in cross-functional drug discovery research projects as a biological research technician and collaborates with colleagues in NS DDU as well as internal partners (GC, NCSP, DMPK, PS, TVS, CEI, TAU, etc.).
- Develops or introduces innovative technologies and methods for target identification/validation and drug discovery in the Neuroscience field.
- Integrate and leverage expertise to add scientific attractiveness, feasibility, fitness, and competitiveness of assets.
- Identifies, engages, and ensures the success of platform technologies in the neurodegenerative disease area for the target validation, mechanism of action, and asset generation to provide the innovative acceleration of the asset generation.
- Keeps up to date with the latest scientific advancements (e.g., competitive situation, innovative technologies and partnerships) and captures the future trends in the drug discovery in the neurodegenerative disease area.
- Reports and consults with one’s supervisor about results, issues, and outcomes in a timely manner and to enhance working culture where group members are empowered to commit to their job and demonstrate their ability in the daily work.
- Complies healthy and productive research environment through good learning and knowledge of operations in EHS, biosafety, animal handling etc.
Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral):
- High motivation in the NS research to learn new areas of disease and biology for drug discovery to select clinical candidates through in vivo data acquisition.
- Experience in drug discovery research (in vivo) for more than 5 years.
- Strong commitment to generate clinical candidates to achieve IND followed by positive ePOC.
- Expertise in planning and executing in vivo biological and/or pharmacological studies including drug preparation, dosing, and tissue collection as well as the biochemical and/or immunohistochemical analysis for efficacy and mechanism studies.
- Collaborative way of work in the cross-functional collaborations and in one’s team.
- Understanding and compliant with the EHS, biosafety, ethics, and facility rules.
- Reports and consults with one’s supervisor about work and issues in a timely manner to enhance agile and productive culture where group members are empowered to commit to their job and demonstrate their ability in the daily work.
- Resilient, honest, and transparent in one’s work to face scientific challenges in a timely manner.
- Experience in Neuroscience preclinical research
- Experience in using genetically modified animals such as transgenic or knockout mice.
- Expertise in brain surgery to generate animal models (such as proteinopathies, ischemic stroke, etc.) or for therapeutic interventions.
- Expertise in biochemical such as ELISA, western blotting, flow cytometry, or immunohistochemical assays
- Track record of accomplishment in research as evidenced by quality and quantity of publications/presentations and/or inventions and/or products and clinical candidates.
