Objective / Purpose:
- Engages in preclinical drug discovery activities for diseases in Neuroscience area, specifically neurodegenerative and rare neurological diseases, under the direct supervision from the Associate Director.
- Leads or participates in cross-functional drug discovery research projects as a biological research representative and selects clinical drug candidates
- Develops or introduces cutting-edge technologies to enhance scientific expertise of Neuroscience DDU.
Accountabilities:
- Explores and identifies potential drug targets for neuroscience diseases, particularly neurodegenerative diseases and rare neurological diseases.
- Establishes and performs in vitro assays for screening of drug candidate compounds.
- Performs in vitro evaluation for validation of hit compounds using genes, cells, proteins, viruses, etc. to elucidate the mechanism of action.
- Establishes and conducts in vivo pharmacological evaluations in animals such as mice, rats, and monkeys to optimize candidate compounds.
- Ensures reliability of data by using reproducible experimental techniques and appropriate data analysis methods.
- Leads or participates in cross-functional drug discovery research projects as a biological research representative, working with internal partners (GC, DSRE, DMPK, PS, TAU, etc.) to select clinical drug candidates.
- Develops or introduces cutting-edge technologies and methods for drug discovery in the Neuroscience field.
Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral):
- Has an M.S. equivalent in relevant fields such as pharmaceutical science or science and has at least 3 years of industry experience in the field of drug discovery as a pharmacologist or biologist. Or has a medical degree and has at least 3 years of research experience in academia or industry.
- Has highly knowledgeable in pharmacology or biology in Neuroscience drug discovery and ability to produce high-quality and reproducible data.
- Has general knowledge of the drug discovery process from target identification to clinical candidate selection.
- Has an ability to develop unique strategies and author/publish research papers with higher impact.
- Has excellent business skills and manners such as logical thinking, strategy planning, self-management, etc.
- Has good writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills in Japanese and English.
- Has an open mind-set willing to learn and reach out to innovative science.
- Takes initiatives and provides opinions to achieve goals of the team.
