OBJECTIVES:

  • Lead and manage the MS&T Lab Team. Provides leadership and oversight of the experiments that are conducted in the lab on DS (DSP/USP), DP (filling & Freeze Drying) and analytics.

  • Support the Design of experiments to address the topics under the lab accountability in the frame of troubleshooting support, process Life Cycle management for Drug Substance manufacturing and Drug Product manufacturing.

  • Share expertise with the team and across MS&T for better process understanding and efficient problem solving and support process characterization.

  • Entrepreneurial leadership to set-up the lab according to the needs of the Vaccines BU, for manufacturing support, Life Cycle management and Tech transfer projects support. A strong transformation mindset and behavior is needed for the role.

  • Promote the efficiency for best in class lab assets utilization with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Adapt and implement the Quality requirements of the lab according to the portfolio of development/experiment needs.

  • Works with the MS&T DS&DP, CMC development, quality & QC, regulatory and manufacturing teams to support process improvements, process scale-ups, process transfers and life-cycle management projects

  • Maintains a culture of teamwork, cooperation and continuous improvement across functional areas including but not limited to quality, regulatory and manufacturing groups

ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Provides scientific and technical leadership and coaching to internal and external manufacturing teams to ensure corporate goals for supply strategies, productivity, quality and regulatory compliance are met

  • In collaboration with global Takeda organizations, leads, develops, and implements strategies to ensure manufacturing and technology transfers are efficiently executed in adherence to project timelines.

  • Partners with CMC development teams and Vaccines Research Teams to provide process improvements according to LCM needs.

  • Attract Talent within the lab to support the site future needs of competencies.

  • Works cross-functionally, develop robust proposals for scale-down for technology transfer of vaccine products, and for life-cycle management changes.

  • Builds partnerships in the areas of vaccines and biologics to drive awareness of new technologies for best-in-class manufacturing operations.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Ph D, MSc with a minimum of 20 years’ experience in Vaccines or Biologics CMC development DS, Analytical Lab, MS&T Lab, in start-up, and cGMP manufacture for drug substance processes in manufacturing or biopharmaceuticals, experience working with live viruses is a plus.

  • A minimum of 10 years of direct leadership experience, including mentoring and developing technical staff

  • Deep Scientific and technical knowledge regarding up-stream and down-stream processing unit operations in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, including single-use technologies.

  • A self-starter and team player who can balance the needs of an entrepreneurial environment with the requirements of structured product development

  • Able to work in a cross-functional environment, serve as a partner and influence others.

  • Proven ability to lead with efficiency across multiple project teams and business functions in a matrix environment. 

  • Ability to travel (10% international travel)

  • Proficiency in German and English is a requirement
