Job Description

About the role

As a Senior Manager, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), you will report to the Head or Associate Director of EHS and serve as a key member of the EHS Leadership Team. In this role, you will collaborate with staff at Covington, GA (USA) and other Takeda sites to foster a strong EHS culture, implement company safety and health policies, and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations.

You will lead the development and execution of comprehensive EHS programs, including training design, project management, communications, and data analytics related to site EHS technical programs and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role requires close collaboration with subject matter experts across departments to support ongoing compliance and risk reduction initiatives.

How you will contribute

As a Senior Manager, EHS, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the site’s safety culture and operational excellence. Your contributions will include:

  • ·Leadership & Coaching: Manage, mentor, and support EHS professionals, providing both strategic direction and daily guidance.

  • ·Safety Culture Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive roadmap to foster a proactive and resilient safety culture across the site.

  • ·Incident Management: Champion best practices to ensure all incidents are properly reported, investigated, and addressed with corrective actions.

  • ·Program Development: Lead the creation and execution of core and technical safety programs that support safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

  • ·Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing enhancements to EHS programs and initiatives, ensuring effectiveness and regulatory compliance.

  • ·Training & Communication: Design and deliver EHS training and communication strategies to promote EHS excellence throughout the Covington site.

  • ·Auditing & Effectiveness Checks: Conduct audits and assessments, recommend improvements, and oversee implementation.

  • ·Data & Analytics: Develop predictive analytics models and explore integration of AI tools to shift from reactive to preventive safety measures.

  • ·Project Support: Act as the EHS liaison for site expansion, construction, capital, and operational excellence projects, collaborating with sponsors and support teams.

  • ·Functional Partnership: Represent EHS in supporting business units across the site, including Manufacturing, QC Labs, Critical Systems, Maintenance, and Engineering.

  • ·Risk Management: Enhance the risk assessment process to identify and mitigate enterprise-level risks.

  • ·Management System Implementation: Support the development and deployment of the EHS Management System.

  • ·Stakeholder Collaboration: Influence and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment with federal, state, local, and company EHS requirements.

  • ·Corporate Engagement: Partner with Corporate EHS to implement global initiatives and represent the site in internal and external benchmarking efforts.

  • ·Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as required to support the success of the EHS function and the broader organization.

What you bring to Takeda

  • ·Education & Certifications: A Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health is preferred. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent credentials from recognized organizations are highly valued.

  • ·Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years in a management role.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • ·Deep understanding of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) principles, including applicable laws and regulations.

  • ·Proven ability to design, develop, and implement comprehensive EHS Management Systems across safety, environmental, and health domains.

  • ·Familiarity with ISO standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

  • ·Experience in research laboratories, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical environments is a plus.

  • ·Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

  • ·Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in diverse environments.

  • ·Commitment to maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.

  • ·Readiness to respond to emergency situations and provide decisive leadership.

Complexity & Problem Solving

As an EHS Manager at Takeda, you will:

  • ·Risk Identification & Mitigation: Evaluate processes and equipment for EHS risks and develop solutions to reduce hazards and environmental impact.

  • ·Incident Investigation: Conduct root-cause analyses and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

  • ·Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and apply EHS regulations, identify compliance gaps, and propose actionable solutions.

  • ·Continuous Improvement: Enhance EHS programs through audits and improvement initiatives.

  • ·Team Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams to address EHS concerns and advocate best practices.

  • ·Adaptability: Respond effectively to unexpected safety or environmental challenges.

Internal & External Contacts

  • ·Internal: Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Technical Services, Quality Control, Warehouse, and Engineering teams.
  • ·External: Engage with vendors and regulatory agencies as needed

Physical Demands

  • ·Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs (with assistance if needed).
  • ·Stand and walk for extended periods during 8–12-hour shifts.
  • ·Perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and squatting.
  • ·Combination of sedentary work and facility observation.

Takeda Compensation and Benefits Summary

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. We are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices.

For Location:

USA - GA - Social Circle - Hwy 278

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$137,000.00 - $215,270.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
