ROLE OBJECTIVE
The Pricing Lead is a strategic leadership role within Takeda Canada’s Patient Value & Access team. The role is responsible for shaping and executing pricing strategies, including contract analysis for renewals, and executing competitive tenders and hospital contracts, in a dynamic pharmaceutical landscape. The Pricing Lead manages pricing submissions and compliance under the revised Patented Medicines Price Review Board (PMPRB) regulations for both current and pipeline products. This individual is pivotal in driving commercial competitiveness and ensuring patient access, while maintaining regulatory compliance and proactively mitigating operational and reputational risks.
The role is responsible for driving pricing governance through the Pricing Committee with robust analytics, strong business recommendations and collaboration with cross functional partners. Establishing and maintaining trust-based, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders are critical to effectively influence decision-making without authority. The role will oversee global and regional pricing governance policies, contract management, tender strategies and execution, invoice validation and reconciliation with cross-functional teams. It will also require driving digital innovation to enhance efficiency, analytical capabilities, and governance.
This role is vital for sustaining Takeda’s growth, ethical standards, and patient-centric mission in Canada.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The role reports to the Head, Patient Value & Access and is an important member of the PVA Leadership Team with 3 direct reports, and will be located at the head office in downtown Toronto, and will::
Lead pricing strategy, analysis, and PMPRB submissions to ensure compliance. Proactively manage investigations through innovative, risk-mitigating strategies. Lead identification of gaps in internal data (LOC/global) and champion appropriate stakeholders to resolve issues.
Represent the company in PMPRB and industry forums (IMC, BIOTECanada), shaping policy and strengthening key stakeholder relationships with Government & External Affairs. Network with key stakeholders to gain in-person insights to anticipate future changes and to shape strategies.
Act as a strategic consultant to the PCPA negotiation team on Price Listing Agreements (PLAs), driving best practices and innovative, value-based contracting. Provide analytical support, as needed.
Lead strategies for PLA renewals, payments, and rebates, and drive technological system improvements for contract and invoice management, analytics, and compliance.
Partner cross-functionally to align pricing and negotiation strategies for pipeline and in-market products.
Secure pricing approvals at all levels, advocate for Canadian market needs, and chair the Pricing Working Group and Committee to ensure strong governance and recommendations. Implement required changes to improve processes.
Develop and manage contract pricing strategies (e.g., tenders, hospital contracts) aligned with regional and global guidance. Lead the tender process and coordinate strategy with regional, global, and Canadian teams. This involves meeting and discussing real-time feedback and information from customer engagement.
Oversee timely and accurate validation and processing of invoices for PLAs and contracts.
Provide input to Finance, Data Analytics, and Marketing/Sales for accurate reporting and forecasting of accruals.
Serve as an active PVA leadership team member, to discuss and lead developing talent and succession planning, aligning on team vision, KPIs, and leading people strategies to address gaps from the Employee Experience Survey.
Lead a high performance and collaborative team culture and act with agility to meet the needs of a dynamic environment.
Ensure compliance with all laws, codes, policies, and uphold the highest standards of integrity and governance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 7 years’ progressive experience in pharmaceuticals or biotech, focused on pricing, contracts, and tendering.
Bachelor’s degree in a health-related or relevant field (advanced degree an asset).
Proven leadership in team management, with ability to inspire, influence, and develop talent.
Deep expertise in pricing and contracting (PMPRB/pricing submissions, PLAs, policy shaping, contract pricing); commercial strategy, negotiation, or finance experience valued.
Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills, and communication with the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights. Communicates complex concepts clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to navigate complexity, drive cross-functional collaboration, and align diverse stakeholders.
Leads with vision and agility, anticipating trends and shaping access strategies. Champions innovation, continuous improvement, and patient-centricity.
Proficient in digital tools, platforms, and AI technologies to enhance productivity and communication.
Embraces continuous learning and digital upskilling.
Builds trusted partnerships internally and externally, influencing without authority.
Strong project management and planning skills; delivers results in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
Experience in pricing tools like Navlin, SAP, etc is an asset
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to travel to regular meetings or client sites, including overnight trips and some international travel, as required.
