About the Role

As Head of Ethics & Compliance Marketing & Commercial Excellence (MCE), you will serve as a trusted strategic partner to Takeda’s International Business Unit (IBU), helping shape commercial strategy through risk-based Ethics & Compliance leadership.

In this highly visible global role, you will work closely with Marketing, Commercial Excellence, Medical, Legal, and Ethics & Compliance leaders to embed integrity, responsible decision-making, and patient-centricity into commercial activities. You will establish modern compliance frameworks that enable business growth, support innovation, and ensure promotional and customer engagement activities meet the highest ethical and regulatory standards.

Operating across diverse international markets outside the US and Japan, you will help foster a culture where compliance is viewed as a business enabler, supporting sustainable growth while effectively managing risk.

How You Will Contribute

  • Act as the lead Ethics & Compliance partner for Marketing, Commercial Excellence, and Customer Engagement teams across the IBU.

  • Provide strategic guidance on promotional activities, customer engagement, campaigns, digital initiatives, and commercial operations.

  • Partner with business leaders to develop compliant, effective, and patient-focused engagement strategies.

  • Translate Ethics & Compliance strategy into practical governance frameworks, policies, standards, and guidance for commercial activities.

  • Build strong partnerships with Global A&P, Legal, Medical, Digital, and local Ethics & Compliance teams to drive alignment and consistency across markets.

  • Advise on commercial and digital initiatives, ensuring privacy, data, ethical, and regulatory considerations are appropriately addressed.

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks related to marketing, promotion, customer engagement, and commercial execution.

  • Provide pragmatic, risk-based recommendations that enable informed business decisions and responsible growth.

  • Lead monitoring, review, and assurance activities, using insights from audits, investigations, and compliance reviews to strengthen controls and processes.

  • Drive the development and implementation of policies, procedures, tools, and guidance that simplify complex compliance requirements for business teams.

  • Design and deliver training, communications, and capability-building initiatives that strengthen compliance awareness across customer-facing functions.

  • Lead and inspire teams and matrix resources supporting Marketing & Commercial Excellence Ethics & Compliance activities.

  • Contribute to the broader IBU Ethics & Compliance leadership agenda and support strategic transformation initiatives across the organisation.

  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring to Takeda

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Business, Finance, Life Sciences, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.

  • Typically, 10+ years of experience within Ethics & Compliance, Legal, Risk, or a related function in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences industry.

  • Significant experience supporting commercial, marketing, customer engagement, or medical activities in a highly regulated environment.

  • Deep knowledge of promotional compliance, healthcare regulations, industry codes, and associated commercial risks.

  • Demonstrated success partnering with senior leaders and influencing strategic business decisions at regional or global level.

  • Experience operating within complex, matrixed, multinational organisations.

  • Experience leading teams and/or cross-functional initiatives across multiple geographies.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of commercial strategy, customer engagement models, and evolving healthcare market dynamics.

  • Ability to balance effective risk management with enabling innovation and business performance.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across diverse functions and cultures.

  • Proven ability to translate complex regulatory and compliance requirements into practical business solutions.

  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and influencing skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders confidently.

  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on simplification, efficiency, and innovation.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives are valued and respected.

Additional Information

  • International travel, including overnight travel, will be required.
